How do I change to a different window manager?

Open the .xinitrc file in your home directory. If you don't have one create it. Add a line to execute the window manager. It must be the last line in the file.
Examples:
exec wmaker
exec fluxbox
exec icewm

If after following the above procedure, GNOME or KDE still come up, the fix is here.
